How Does Homeopathy Work?

Science has yet to find a cohesive explanation for how homeopathy works (and because of this homeopathy is frequently under attack in the media and in certain scientific circles). Various possible models have been put forward over the years, but a recent paper published in the BioMed Central journal (BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine 2012, 12:191) proposes a highly plausible explanation of the biological and physico-chemical responses which occur when a living organism receives a stimulus from a homeopathically prepared remedy (which is considered as a highly reactive nanostructure which produces a hormetic response in the organism). Some believe that the key to efficacy lies at the quantum level.

Classical Homeopathy is so-called when it is practised according to the principles set down by Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), the founder of homeopathy. The main difference between classical and non-classical homeopathy is the way in which the remedies are prescribed. A homeopath who works classically will only prescribe one remedy at a time rather than a number of remedies together. This allows the homeopath to see exactly what effect that particular remedy has had; if several remedies are given together it can present a rather confusing picture and makes further prescribing more difficult.
